The Food Web
The food web is a diagram of a predator-pray interactions. It shows what the animal consumes and to what it is consumed by. Usually It all starts with plants Getting energy from photosynthesis and passing it on, this is called energy flow. The energy decreases every time it is consumed by something else. For example, a deer might get more energy than the cougar it was eaten by since it used up some of that energy. Remember that energy is never created or destroyed it just changes its form.
These concepts to the food web and energy flow is essential to ecology. It allows us to understand how the ecosystem is balanced out so that no organisms overpopulate and destroy another organism.
